DIGITAL + PHYSICAL GARMENT PROJECT HYPERCRAFT:

LIFE AFTER DEATH STILL IN PROCESS

STILL IN PROCESS, SO ONLY SOME PROCESS PICTURES.

Life After Death is a digital and physical fashion story about rebirth, reflection, and the future of fabric. It asks a bold question: What happens to fashion after it dies? This project offers garments a second chance through storytelling, reuse, and transformation. In the Netherlands, the average person owns 15–20 shirts but discards around 40 garments yearly (CBS, 2023). The collection begins in a church, symbolizing the near-religious belief in consumerism—the need to own more and dress better. Yet this faith leads to disregard and waste, like a repeated sin. From here, the story explores our emotional and material ties to clothing before culminating in rebirth, where fabric grows over the body like moss, symbolizing transformation and renewal. The tone is introspective and symbolic, inviting reflection without judgment.Technology was key: garments were made in CLO3D, textured with Substance Painter and Sampler, and animated in Blender. These tools enabled a rich storytelling experience that blends realism and metaphor.Sustainability is central. The second look was created physically as a zero-waste garment from recycled felt. Digital methods minimized waste while maximizing creativity. This project urges audiences to rethink overproduction and overconsumption, suggesting garments deserve new life and meaning.

Life After Death merges digital innovation, emotional storytelling, and sustainable design. It invites viewers to reflect on their buying habits and the fate of their old clothes—asking, “Where does the old end up?”
